Prof. Ir. Dr. Mohd Sapuan Salit

Prof. Ir. Dr. Mohd Sapuan Salit is a distinguished scholar and expert in the field of mechanical engineering and composite materials. He has made significant contributions to the research and development of natural fiber composites, particularly kenaf. He is currently affiliated with the Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) and serves as the Director of the Laboratory of Biocomposite Technology. He has also served as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International) at UPM.

Prof. Ir. Dr. Sapuan Salit has an extensive academic background, having earned a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from University of Newcastle, Australia a Master's degree in Engineering Design from Loughborough University, Leicestershire, UK and a PhD in Materials Engineering from the Montfort University, Leicester, UK. He is a registered Professional Engineer with the Board of Engineers Malaysia and a Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, UK. He is the first and the only Malaysian elected as Fellow of Society of Automotive Engineers, International USA.

Throughout his career, Prof. Ir. Dr. Sapuan Salit has published more than 800 research papers, including journal articles, conference proceedings, and book chapters. His research has focused on the development and characterization of natural fiber composites, including their mechanical, physical, and thermal properties. He has also conducted research on other areas, such as polymer composites, nanocomposites, and biomaterials. His notable achievements are reflected in his H-index of 83 (Scopus) and citation count of 26,055. His exceptional contributions to the field of composite materials have been recognized with numerous awards and honors. He has received the ASEAN Outstanding Engineering Achievement Award, the ASEAN Young Scientist and Technologist Award, and the National Academic Award, among others. He is also a Fellow of the Academy of Sciences Malaysia and the Institution of Engineers Malaysia.

Prof. Ir. Dr. Mohd Sapuan Salit has been selected as the keynote speaker for ICADME 2023, where he will deliver a speech entitled "Design for Sustainability and Design for Circularity - The Roles of Biopolymer Composites". With his vast experience and extensive research in the field of composite materials, Prof. Ir. Dr. Mohd Sapuan Salit keynote speech will explore the potential of biopolymer composites as a sustainable alternative to traditional materials in a circular economy.
